lads, i never before have clear-coated or lacquered my 1:18's, never had any probs with decals coming away etc...apart from a stupid mistake with masking tape!
decided to coat a shell i've just painted, and the lacquer has left a milky creamy coat over all the shell....ive put another colour coat over this to try to save it, but think she'll be getting nitromorsed lol!!
any ideas what would cause this, i just keyed the original base colour before spraying so are there too many layers of paint? or is the air temperature too low? or is the lacquer just past its sell-by date?...... scratch
cheers in advance lads.

.

Ah ballix sorry to hear you are having a bit of bad luck Billy,
It's hard to say what has happened with out seeing it but the milky finish sounds like it has bloomed,
Bloomed it a techy term geek if it's cold or damp in the air then the paint or lacquer goes a milky colour,
Heating the model before you spray it helps to stop the blooming/milky white finish,
If you send me a pic or bring the model with you on Friday I'll know better,

Orange peel can be fixed with very fine wet n dry (using water). Just be very careful about sanding thru to the colour. You then need to either polish the car or recoat with the clear. The milky is the problem. I have seen some who have heated the paint job later which has reduced the milkyness but only the results, not the process.

Guys, something I've learnt the hard way is to make sure the paint and decals are completely dry and set before attacking with lacquer. Even thn, it's worth giving the model a short blast to help the decals seal into the lacquer before doing a proper coat of lacquer to finish off.

I've had a case recently when the lacquer has distorted the decal due to the power of the spray blast! Grrrr! Won't let that happen again!

Cheers, Steve
