Sandblasting diecast models Empty Sandblasting diecast models

Has anyone ever tried sandblasting a diecast model. Paint removers dont seem to be doing as good a job as they used to anymore so maybe sandblasting might work. Anyone ever give this a go, and if so how did it turn out.

Brian,

That sounds a bit drastic!! Very Happy

You're right about current paint strippers - the formula has changed so they aren't as abrasive/ effective/ noxious as before.

I've got around that by leaving the models in the paint stripper for longer than I did before! Wink Patience is a virtue!

Cheers, Steve

Industrial is a bit harsh to say the least. Im talking more about something like this, albeit not a plastic bottle. Sure its messy but not as dangerous as my backup method of boiling water and caustic soda  Razz

yeah, i got a 1:1 manta wing done a few years back, the guy insisted in soda-blasting rather than sand as he said the sand can leave small but noticeable pits/dents in the steel.... i suppose a few layers of paint would hide these but col is the man to know..i'll be talking to him soon brian and will ask him, if you dont get there before me... Very Happy

I mix NitroMors with cellulose thinners and the combo seems to work nearly as good as the old Nitromors.

I'm looking a making a Sodablaster-U tube has videos on how to make one and the Soda is much cheaper than the grit. I want to strip resin models
