lads, am tempted to buy an old model for its unused decals sheet which i need for a conversion project...however the sheet which should be white-backed has yellowed in storage.....as they're going on to a white base they would look bad....we discussed a couple of years ago vatious methods/suggestions on how to return them to white, i think sun-bleaching was mentioned, but wondered if anyone has another tried/trusted technique....
cheers Smile

If they are yellowed then as a forum member discovered (cant remember who at the moment) that hanging them in a conservatory will re-whiten them. Then you can go down your usual route. Other than that I dont have any magic method. Hopefully some members who work with old kits will have something

Personally Id scan them and re-draw them but whatever works for you. If its not a difficult livery Id have them redrawn before the sun had enough time to whiten them again.

It was Simon who hung them out (to brighten!) in the sun. If I remember correctly, he was somewhat sceptical until he saw the results, Billy.

It was a great result. Had my doubts, and thought they might fade more but it was a job. Wasnt sure who it was, thought it might have been chris actually, glad I didnt say it was him now Very Happy.

Give it a go Billy. Scan them first in case the worst happens, at least you will have something to fall back on. May we ask what it is????????

ah david, thanks for that..... good to be busy m8, keep at it and dont forget to take breaks lol! all good here too m8 cheers

brian, yes of course m8, my vatanen collection is just about complete, waiting on the pikes peak 405 from otto, but i have one needing completed.....his allied polymer car from 1976..........now i have a sunstar base with almost identical livery, one of these ones.... it is surplus to my main collection and would rather convert it than sell it....

i have found an old solido model with dodgy old decals and am tempted to buy it and attempt to save, then upscale the few wee decals that i ned to make my base right.....

Very good idea Billy especially as you have the base already. You can use the other for what you need then put it back on ebay. You might even get your money back Wink
