Posting a few Ebay sales today when my local post master asked me if I was aware of the new charges/rules being introduced by the loveley Post Office on a very apt date. I knew something was in the air however not quite the scale of the changes that are due. Items will now be charged on package dimensions and also weight. Also the amount of compensation is being halved or worse on all mail. Amazingly no literature will be available until after the changes are introduced

For example a model I was mailing today for £3.15 2nd class recorded will cost at least £5.95 next week for half the service! Thats what I call progress but apparantley the changes are in response to what we the customers have asked for!! Beggars belief..

hi chris, wouldn't worry about the compensation m8, i have found that trying to get refund or compensation for damaged models is a waste of time, even if you supply photos, evidence, receipts, etc, etc...they make you jump through hoops at three different levels of panels, then refuse you anyway because it was your fault to begin with!! the rm is a totally unfair, money-obsessed customer-unfriendly organisation in my experience! .

Yeah Chris, I was told about the changes when I was posting stuff on Monday,
The women showed me how the parcels will be measured, its the same as the letter measuring thing they use and there's no way a 1/43 model will fit,
This means that all the models will now be classed as medium size parcel and bumping the price up by a few quid!!
The older way would have been classed as small packet but the size is now down to the size of a packet of 20 fegs,

I've worked out that if I sell a 1/43 model with free post for £40 I'll be left with about £28 after paypals new fees and covering the postage costs!!

Worth a look..
From your local shop (uk) to my local shop (N.I) £3.49 up to 10kg with free £50 cover, signed for and tracked

extra 50p to doorstep.

Most of these shops open to 10 or 11 at night some maybe 12 midnight.

I know i work for Royal Mail and i'm not going to stand up for them because the estabilishment is a load of shite but i do have to say this.
It's the Post Office putting up the prices because they are now no longer a part of Royal Mail.
The Post Office is still government run as is Royal Mail. But later this year Royal Mail (Just the delivery Network) is to be floated on the stock market. Apparently this can not be done with the Post Office because of the Queens head scratch
A sly way to privatisation, so god know what will happen then and what company will see the chance to take a large share in us.
All i can say is bye bye Royal Mail as it will go and you will be posting via TNT, UPS, DHL or any TD&H (tom, dick & harry)

Have to say, it's a good idea.
Rymans the stationary shops do a service through DHL and it is roughly the same price.

Thanks. Will look into this.

I've been selling off a lot of my old Dinkies - lowish value and well played with - and the increase may make this unrealistic.

I've been spending up to £40 at the local small Post Office, so tell me how driving your customers away makes a business more profitable.....

Thanks for the pointer to collectplus!

I feel really sorry for postal workers and appreciate the impending privatisation can only make things worse. Postmasters in the main are small business holders who could be witnessing the demise of their businesses from this crazy restrucutre.

I'm assuming the customers the PO are only really interested in are the Amazons of this world and guess these are the types of clients they consulted with before they went down this path. Bizarelly there are exceptions to the small packet rule now in that tubes and small cubes can still be classed as small!

Posted two packets yesterday. One was an International Signed for which would normally cost me £8.80 now £10.25. The other was by Special Dwelivery which used to be £5.50 but now£6.95. So in total it cost me £2.90 more. Not good Mad

Posted 3 different parcels

All to UK destinations

1st class is £5.80 up from 2 70
2nd class is £5.30 up from 2.30

So what are people doing passing the cost onto buyers as otherwise there is no point in doing models as one car I posted the profit was tight and its gone now so what's the point

depends on how much profit you make in the first place and could you justify the cost of post say uk in with the model on future code 3's
So if you say £65 for a model £60 back and a fiver for postage
