Re: Irish Ascona 400...............suggestions?
I'll be watching this topic with interest...
...as an Irish Ascona MIGHT just be my first non-6R4 CODE343 release in the distant future sometime, so I could do with some suggestions as well.
Sorry for half-hijacking your topic Billy - will you forgive me this indulgence?

It's got to be a Bertie Fisher one hasn't it? For me I mean, as I will only do models that I know will sell out with ease.
Any photos of Bertie's?

Mind you, hasn't KMD got exclusive permission to do all of the Fisher family cars? If that is the case, then I don't want to tread on anyone's toes.

Hursons car for sure
Just thinking we may start a thread of Irish cars from the 80s that we'd like to see

Re: Irish Ascona 400...............suggestions?
The old warhorse JZP 252 that just about everyone drove. I sat in it with both Vincent Meade and Donie Keating and would love to get them done - very simple decals (the door panels would be the fanciest part of them- I have some photos). From memory James Cullen, Hugh Twomey, Denis Cronin all campaigned it at one stage or another and they are just names off the top of my head.

I'd start thinking about buying your old models back because your attempt not to have the Ireland's biggest collection is likely to fail miserably anyway.mcm motorsport wrote:Speedy wrote:Hursons car for sure

Re: Irish Ascona 400...............suggestions?
just to get a bit more specific here lads, (in other words, back on my topic! ), this will/would be 1:18 so the availability of decals or the ability to upscale wee ones will be a major consideration....thanks for all suggestions so far......
this is prob gonna ruffle a few feathers, but anyway, the whole thing about kevin or anybody else having sole rights to a driver/livery/marque is only a consideration surely if the maker is selling a run of them....who's to stop any of us sitting at our computer and making our own decals from pix on the web, then stripping a model which we own, and creating our own personal example?? is this not the basis of many of the great models on here?
and, do we really believe there aren't a whole load of one-off models hiding away out here in 'forum-land'??

Re: Irish Ascona 400...............suggestions?
I mentioned KMD's situation with regard to any possible plans that I might have to make a run of Fisher Asconas in the future, NOT your plans to make a one off for your own personal collection Billy - nobody (not even God's of Irish rallying folklore) can stop anybody from doing that!
Re: Irish Ascona 400...............suggestions?
I know david, i wasn't getting all defensive m8, just think that the skill and ingenuity of this place would be somewhat diminished if we all had a guilt complex about making a model that someone else had already 'claimed'........ i totally understand your point about making a run to sell on, and not wanting to tread on another producer's toes........ a very noble stand which i know is held by most if not all the 'professionals' on the forum.........

Re: Irish Ascona 400...............suggestions?
Yeah no worries Billy.
I know Kevin is held in very high regard amongst the model (arguably the highest regard!) and rallying community, and the last thing I would want to do is upset the Fisher family if there was any agreement in place between them and Kevin. I'm in no rush to do anything but my next 6R4 model release at this very moment anyway, so nothing is going to be happening this side of Summer 2013 at the earliest.
There's millions of fresh model material out there anyway, so it always amazes me how two people can end up producing the exact same model at the same time - although I appreciate working away at it in the privacy of your own model room, and then announcing it to find out that someone else has almost finished their own version must be totally soul destroying!

Re: Irish Ascona 400...............suggestions?
.
I've a wee plan to do an Irish Ascona for my self.... well Irish event and a Scottish driver
The decals are 75% complete and if they turn out well then I may do a small run of built models,
Trying to get base models at the right price will be tricky so it will be limited to the amount of base models I can get,
Oh and you'll be glad to know Billy it's going to be 1/18!!
If anyone else is doing Irish Ascona's in 1/43 or 1/18 keep me in mind
