Juha's projects
Tonight's ingredients are...
- Old and not-so-old decal sheets
- Water
- Knives
- Loctite
- DLE 90
And these:
The first one finished was the 6R4 of Jimmy McRae on the 1986 Scottish Rally. The decals by Rallymodels were excellent. That hardest bit was repairing the front spoiler which had been knocked off by the previous owner. That's where the Loctite came in. It got back into place, eventually, but not before I succeeded in glueing my fingers together. That's when I needed the knives.
Next up, the first of the white 6R4's. It does look good with gravel wheels.
But the aim was to make a Clarion 6R4 with Starter decals...
The positive side of things: the decals didn't break (yet).
The negative side: most of them don't stick unless you drown them in Microsol.
I'm leaving it for a few days, the stripes don't look easy, and concentrate on making a 33 Export Tour de Corse version.

Re: Juha's projects
I just buy all the reasonably priced base models.
Some of the models on the group shot are being converted. The top row consist of 8 white base models (one is now a Clarion car, still got another 7 elsewhere) and 3 complete Altaya Rothmans models.
The group on the right is a set of dismantled Rothmans models (some were bought for spares from Mark), Altaya 33 Export (the one shown above), the grey one is a stripped LHD tarmac shell (car is complete), the white one is a stripped Altaya Rothmans car, and at the bottom 3 Altaya Computervision shells surrounding the 86 Scottish car before its conversion.
The boxed models are 2 Monte-Carlo models (one is being converted), 85 RAC, 86 1000 Lakes (with correct wheels), a tarmac spec car with correct Rothmans decals, 3 Clarions, a damaged San Remo model, 2 85 RAC Altayas, and another Ixo 85 RAC model.
Not pictured are another 33 Export and an Altaya Rothmans model with paint damage.
After yesterday's work 2 of those models are ready, 1 will remain as it is, 3 are being converted, which leaves another 39 to do.

Re: Juha's projects
The total sum is 24 built models, 3 ongoing projects, 3 Starter kits, 1 PJ kit, 1 model on the way to me, 2 models ordered, 21 decal sheets, and 39 base models.

I actually considered leaving it like that.Zeus wrote:Nice, love the Eklund car
I'm now fitting the orange and black stripes. They're oversized but not cutting up.
The decals I fitted yesterday are still coming loose too.
Re: Juha's projects
Nearly there!
The stripes were far too big, I only used half of what I had for the sides and the roof decals were shortened too.
It's not perfect, but by tomorrow evening they'll be loose again so I can improve on that.
The 1000 Lakes car is now fitted with gravel wheels.
I should remove the Mylchreests decals...
The same goes for this one:

Re: Juha's projects
Hi Juha,
Great photos of a fabulous collection. Well done!!! Like the plans you have for them too. I'd been wondering recently if I'm a bit odd having a large collection with 26 or so 6R4s in it...then I saw your photos and feel a whole lot better! It's good to be reminded I'm not the only one with this 6R4 affliction
I noticed that some of your models are door pod-less. I've removed the door pods on one of my Code 3 models (Rob Gibson's rallycross car) and was about to do another but changed my mind when I couldn't get the door pods off cleanly .
How have you removed your door pods? Any advice you can pass on? I remember seeing a similar thread on the old Forum, but can't remember what the definitive advice was.
Cheers, Steve

Re: Juha's projects
Use a small knife and slide it between the pod and the shell. Cut along the door and all that's left to keep them attached are two small pins in front of the rear wheel arch which you can just pull off.

Thanks Juha, that's excellent
I'll have a go soon enough and hopefully with more success than my last effort!!
Cheers, Steve

Re: Juha's projects
It may come as a surprise but there are just as many Escort Cosworth/WRC's in my collection. Then again, I don't have 20 of them lying in bits.
I gave up on gathering all the Escort decal sets, it's endless.

Re: Juha's projects
Stunning projects Juha, and even more stunning base model collection - you have been busy mate!
Love the McRae Scottish and Eklund Swedish cars, both of which I still need to produce. Mmmmmmmm, an Auriol Corsica car eh? Sounds familiar...

So do I - but mine are applied!Juha wrote:I have the numbers and the plates.
I just need to apply two small decals and it's finished.
Re: Juha's projects
You'll beat me to it then.
The third of my Start kits arrived today. This time it's a 33 Export version. This means I now have three of those decal sets.
Now if I could find a full set of the Coleman decals I'd have all the Starter decals.
