Ebay again
I bought some decals on ebay from a french ebayer I have dealt with a number of times in the past "virateminature". The postal charges are scandalous so I decided to addd two roof rack kits to get better value from the p&p . Imagine my surprise when he tells me he can add one roof rack but not the other because apparently one is denominated in sterling and the other in euros. Both bought at the same time - so it was not as if I went back in on ebay.co.uk. Is there a con here apart from getting stung for extra postal charges? I have come across it before. I went back into his ebay list and bought a euro one and asked him to add it and cancel the "sterling" transaction. I await his reaction.

Re: Ebay again
Bought from him once as he did the Chris Lord Monte Sunbeam under his own label and postage was an issue for me as well. As a rule the French guys are bit more realistic than their Italian cousins though who on average appear to want at least £10.00 postage standard airmail for one set of decals!
Trust he will come round to your way of thinking.

Re: Ebay again
I agree postage costs from him and other french and italian sellers are top end but i always check what its really cost them when the letters arrive and there isnt much margin in it for him. I think ebay generally insists/strongly encourages registered/tracked postage even for low value items and that's where the costs come from.

Re: Ebay again
I have been very quick to voice my displeasure at all things ebay and post when they go wrong. This is a post that comes from the bemused section. A box arrived this morning measuring 25cm x 24cm x 38cm and it felt empty. I proceeded to open it and it looked empty inside apart from a black bin liner. In the black bin liner was a 2020 Rally Monte Carlo Historique poster I bought - it measured 40 x 60 but rolled into a cylinder with a rubber band which is the norm. The box could have been kicked all the way from France to Ireland and I believe the poster would have survived !!!

Re: Ebay again
I don't want to mention a name but I have just bought some of the 1/43 Rallye Assistance models from a French ebayer who had them priced close to the bottom of the scale. When I asked for combined postage an automatic message came back saying he doesn't offer it. So I sent him a direct message. He has responded by saying he will and whats more at a very cheap rate. 3 models cost a total of 68.70. Postage on ebay showing 35.70 ( 11.90 each). He is now offering the 3 models plus postage at 87.90. For that he will cancel the order and I pay him as a friend/family on paypal. Not sure ebay will approve but has anyone been stung by him.?

Re: Ebay again
I've just bought a spark Transit from Belgium with post at €9
Two Rally assistance SWB transits more from France with post €22. One would have been €15 so that's a con!
I bought three more SWB transits from France with the post at €22-one would have been €18?? Identical models from France-single post is €3 difference from different sellers.

Re: Ebay again
French sellers can be bizzare with postage. Want to complete the set of the defunct Spanish rally mag Todo Rallye and French seller has several that I desperately want however he's asking £15 per magazine shipping and wont combine!

Brexit. UK now is in "rest of Europe" for us which means almost double the postage cost.

ebay can work for some sellers very well when you have people going mad. Dont think this is schill bidding but for a new Ixo release getting double the RRP is some going!

Re: Ebay again
The human mind is playing tricks / goes into overdrive when there is a nice part or modelcar for sale on ebay with a low starting price. Then the mind forgets about what is a good price and you want to outbid others no matter what. I've seen items that were on ebay for buy-it-now GBP 100 two or three times which were sold for over GBP 300 after the seller relisted the item with a starting price of 99p!

Re: Ebay again
Unfortunately UK ebayers are not worth taking a chance on any more with the vat/customs etc . However I've just come across a French ebayer (Frederic2520) whom I thought looked ok - Rally Assistance Sherpa for €20 plus €16.50 postage. I "watched" it and then the "offer" of €18 appeared which seemed like good value. But when I examined it more carefully it was €18 plus €3.60 VAT and the postage had jumped from €16.50 to €19.80. Plan was to put Rothmans decals on it. Don't have decals but don't have the van now either !!!

Re: Ebay again
I have a spare Sherpa if you want it. I might even convert it to Rothmans or Rally as in Coleman's Donegal support van

What are the chances that one of the Rally Assistance series will not do one ? Problem is the white signwriting within the blue.

Its not the fault of the ebayers as such. When one pays for the item on ebay one still cant be sure as to what additional charges are levied by the authorities here - on top of whatever vat and duty they demand is a handling fee to collect the charges. I wish it were otherwise because postage from Europe is crippling.
