Binned / Restarted Projects

so lads i finally bit the bullet and am stripping my 1:18 meagher wrc escort conversion, due to poor colour reproduction of upscaled decals, its bugged me since i did it a few years ago, of the many conversions ive done i guess a couple of failures aint bad...so now im hoping to re-instate the original livery as ive only the one wrc escort in my wrc collection...anyway, i was thinking, anyone else like to share when/why a project was binned or abandoned or changed? as stated, this one was due to poor decals on my part...any other horror stories out there?

Only one project that ive shelved is a Boland escort cosworth. Originally a yacco car, it was stripped and after repainting it yellow, i broke the whole window part off the door. Tried to fix it but came out poorly so a new door was needed.
Fast forward 12months and the paint had chiped so another strip and respray needed. This tjme i wasnt happy with the colour. Should have been a stronger yellow. Colour i used looks very washed out.
Model still sits in the shelf and have no intentions of coming back to it any time soon. The morrette kits i had cast still remain unused after 4 plus years in the box

considering the projects you have turned out recently m8, one dumped one aint bad at all!

The amount of stuff I started but never finished-was planning to offload a lot of the the bits actually.

I have many on my to do pile, the worst to date was the Johm McKerrell 6R4 I finally finished yesterday after 6 years, say completed, it still needs proper wheels. Cut a long story short I done the stripes wrong and put it to one side.

so my second binned model, i had many years back converted a ut escort wrc to vatanens 1997 Toshiba red version, but it has never pleased me, both the decals and the wheels,,


ive only just ordered aris dakar 205 from otto, and i didnt have a spare space for it in vatanen cabinet, so this was the opportunity to sacrifice the wrc escort...think ill attempt to convert it to a works one (white/blue) as these are getting silly money now and i used my previous one for meagher conversion recently as decals were poor on it...so well see how it goes...

Think if you converted in to the Snijers Bastos car you could probably retire if you flogged it. The Vitesse 1/43 can sell for £80 or so on a good day!

oh now chris dont put bad ideas in my head lol!

plus knowing me, if i did that id want it to sit with my bastos manta and bastos m3....

if plan 'a' doesnt work out, ill tackle the snijers version...
cant believe how much the original works ones are fetching now, even imperfect ones...

so all done, happy enough with this conversion, started with a road going silver ut escort, modded and installed cage for vatanen conversion but was never happy with it...also had sacrificed an imperfect wrc works version for my meagher conversion, and as these are now getting over £150 im well happy to have added this to the main collection, for the price of a set of decals and a few hours work...
