Ford Sierra Cosworth 1987 Safari Rally Crashed in practice.

Hello gents,

Haven't posted in years and progress has been slow, but I (sort of) finished my Blomqvist Sierra, figured I'd post the results. This is the car that had a slight mishap with a large animal during recce and didn't start the race. Base is a Trofeu TR122 Tour De Corse car, with wheels and light bar donated from TR102 1000 Lakes version. The Safari-specific decals were home printed.





Bull bar is soldered wire, with Studio27 mesh and 1/64" white line tape as zip ties.






Wasn't thrilled with the petrol filler cap being a decal, so I milled it out and made my own from aluminum bar stock turned on my hand drill and a bit of sheet brass. I got another set of the TR122 decals from Trofeu as I knew I would be damaging them in the process.







I said "sort of" finished because I have yet to find a rear view of this car, so I've avoided making assumptions about the rear bull bar until I can find reference. Also need to add the spotlights on the wings as well.

If anyone is tempted to try this one on themselves, I'd be happy to share the graphics file for printing, as well as the bull bar template.

amazing work. Bull bar is immense. How you keep the solder spots so neat is beyond me.

Thanks, gents. The fun is in figuring out how to get there. Usually involves scrapping it several times before I get it right!

LOL! No, they're an absolute mess. I do a lot of filing with a needle file afterward to smooth them out. Which sometimes ends up with the joint breaking if the soldering wasn't clean, and having to re-do it.
