Re: hannu mikkola passes away
Absolute Rally Legend.
When I started to watch rallying he seemed to win everything.
His record on the RAC Rally from 1977 to 1984 reads as 2-1-1-2-1-1-2-2
Then when he moved from Ford to the unknown Audi Team, why would he doing that...we soon found out.

RIP Hannu

A proper legend, just looking at his stats on Ewrc, he was 58 when he did the Summit rally in the Impreza WRC, he came 3rd on the 86 Monte, then won the National breakdown and came over to Ireland for the Circuit. I grew up in a wonderful era of rallying, and Hannu was right there. 7 wins on the 1000 lakes!

Re: hannu mikkola passes away
Legend is way too liberally these days however Hannu is truly deserving of the accolade.
He really was master of the Escort and the Quattro arguably the most important rally cars of their respective eras and had a career at the top level from the 60s through to the 90s when he was in his early 50s! Was really moving to see him back in a MK2 on the first running of the Roger Albert.
There's a spot in Dalby Forest that will always been know as Mikkola's Bend to rally drivers and fans alike
RIP Maestro
