Murray Walker RIP
Sad news that the voice of motorsport has passed at the grand old age of 97
One of those people I really wish I'd had the privilege of meeting. A man who's knowledge and commentary transcended Formula 1 into the main stream. I grew up listening to his words and many of the glorious cock ups he became famous for. Wilson rolling on an TV Rallysprint and Keith Ripp destroying his Mini at Lydden are but just 2 events he commentated on.
RIP

Yes indeed The Voice of Motorsport for those of a certain age.
I remember visiting the Brussels Motor Museum many years ago.
There was a very good model shop in the museum and as we came through the door we could here Murray's voice. They had some BTCC race on their TV with Murray doing the commentary.
Once they realised we were British they asked who is the commentator - he is brilliant.
As Chris said he covered all sorts of motorsport, with passion and all done in his unique style.
Gone but for ever remembered

Re: Murray Walker RIP
He would be welcome anytime at my hypothetical dream dinner party- one of life’s gentlemen and highly regarded by senior people both past and present in the F1 paddock. He described himself as an over enthusiastic amateur (doing his time and commitment to motorsport a grave disservice) and the legendary broadcaster Clive James description of him as “someone who in their quieter moments still sounded like his trousers were on fire” sums up his giddy excitement perfectly. RIP.
