Oh No! EWRC-Results.com has shut to the public
After the demise a couple of years ago of that Facebook page which captured pictures of the vast majority of cars from the WRC from 1973 until the page was closed without warning (most suspect copyright issues), I was gutted to find out whilst on the final leg of a year long project where i was heavily reliant on the EWRC site, it shut to the public this morning.
The rationale given is on the page, but in short, with over 4 million visitors each year and over 145 million pages accessed, the inability to attract sponsorship or funding has made them decide to take it off line as they feel there is clearly commercial value in the site, but are frustrated that the world is reluctant to pay for it. Whether that will encourage a sponsor to come forward or whether that is the start of the end for the page, we can only hope its the former, as it was an immensley useful resource for those interested in rally history.

Re: Oh No! EWRC-Results.com has shut to the public
good spot paul, here is the official spiel for all to read..
Hi to all,
we apologize to everyone, but our current situation has forced us to close the project to the public. We hope only temporarily. With this step, we would like to point out that it is no longer possible to work on such a large project on an amateur basis.
During the 16 years of its existence, this project has collected an incredible amount of rally data. At least 20 people work on it every day, including weekends, so that you have all the new data as soon as possible. Last year alone, we added another 350,000 entries and 7,000 rally events. That means 1,000 entries a day ... There are almost 10 million stage times in our database...
However, during the existence of this project, we did not find any large partner or sponsor who would ensure the future of this project and its further development. We are not businessmen, we are just fans of the rally, for whom rally life is and who do everything to popularize it.
We tried to find a partner for a long time, but we were not successful. Official authorities appreciate us, but see no reason to support us. And here is our problem. We feel like we are doing something for free that others use for their business and make money from it. Or at least save money by not having to pay anyone else to collect data.
Over the last 3 years, we have asked you for support during a crowfunding campaign. We really appreciate your support, but this method of financing cannot be repeated over and over again. On the one hand, it is not enough, on the other hand, it is not possible for you all to contribute to a project that should be supported by someone completely different.
In the last year, we have had 4 million unique visitors and 145 million pages viewed. We still believe that these numbers and our work must be interesting for a strong partner who also loves rallies and does not do everything just for money.
Our background work is still ongoing and we believe that a solution will be found as soon as possible. We are still looking for a true partnership, we can provide as access for a deep statisics and visible advertisement places on our page. Otherwise, the whole project is in danger of ending, without the ardent people, who unfortunately have lost their illusions, it is impossible to continue.
We apologize once again for this solution, but we see no other way to draw attention to this situation.

Re: Oh No! EWRC-Results.com has shut to the public
It was a great source of info, between it and the Juwra website I did a major update of my model rally car spreadsheet over the weekend, had a good few cars with no event year or results which has now been reduced to just one result needed and it wasn't on the site anyway Ironic thing is that the event is actually my local rally, Carlow Stages
Will be sorry to see it closed, hopefully they'll grant access to those who sent in funds via paypal and we'll get to use it again

That will be a real pain if it goes for ever.
A site I looked at many times.
Mind some of the info from the 1950s was all over the place.
I did consider offering my services to correct it and fill in the gaps.
