shock statement!!
im cutting back on the models from here on,nothings for sale, just buying models now that i like, not for the sake of them being irish. main reason for this decision is room! ive now 3 cabinets full to the brim! 233 irish models currently, alot of them i havnt looked at twice since i bought/built them!

Re: shock statement!!
big decision m8, but well done on having the wit to stop, look, size up and reassess your collection....many collectors of all sorts of things keep collecting for the sake of it and some lovely items get lost in the size of it all..........there's very little irish you dont have m8, your collection is a credit to you and will be a joy to you for donkeys.......
had to take the same decision a while ago myself, found myself with two identical 1:18 autoart scoobies from several years, just different drivers, it was getting silly.......trimmed the main collection to a good display of rallying progress through the years with the odd rarity as a highlight.....now i'll concentrate on irish code 3's and vatanen, and when i'm done............ i'm done!

Re: shock statement!!
thanks for the support billy, yeah hard decision....but at least im not losing any (that must be a very very hard thing to do for guys!)
as you say good/rare/nice models gets losted in the back of large collections and if theres models in there that dont get looked at again after buying/building its a shame and a waste really imo.

Re: shock statement!!
233, I can double that, no problem. Think it's near 600 here.
Just buy another cabinet! Ikea has cheap ones. Or make more storeys in the one you have.
Off course you don't look at each model 25 times a year, no one does. I've spent years looking for some models but I won't stare at them for hours. Just take pleasure from the fact that each model you build or buy brings you one step further on the way to achieve a comprehensive collection of Irish rally cars.
And at least your models are visible in your cabinet, it's not as if you've got loads of them crammed in it. I'll show a pic of my main cabinet, that's a disaster. It did look better without boxes - I blame Pat for giving me such an idea.
PS: So you won't be having the S9 off PJ then?

Re: shock statement!!
And do yourself a favour, don't count what all of them are worth. I tried, and got to a scary amount.
Re: shock statement!!
Working out what YOU want is the most important thing; cause really that is why one should collection for themselves not for showing off to others.
I almost found myself buying a couple of cars over the yrs but thankfully before I did managed to work out it wasn't because I actually wanted them (though they did look good) but rather because I could show off to others that I had these cars. Have made myself a list of the cars i 'MUST HAVE' and thankfully not too far away from achieving that; worked out the way I want to display them and once I get myself my own place and a couple more cabinets well then I can sit back and enjoy every one of the cars i've added over the yrs
You certainly have a comprehensive irish collection; nice that u aren't minimising it but rather making sure ur collection still gives you the same enjoyment

Re: shock statement!!
exactly michael! its too easy to get into a competition frame of mind, this should not be about the most models, most valuable collection, or the largest room.....we all come from different situations and each of us cherishes our collection for what it means to us, NOT to out-do others.........whether it be 5 or 500 strong! of course we engage in a bit of banter now and again but always need to be careful that money and pride don't get in the way of friendships, shared intersts, etc....imho of couse lol!!
rant over, sorry for hijack paul!

Re: shock statement!!
Paul I can understand your thinking on this
I am going to review my model collection and make it probably just irish cars with a few special ones from others
What is the point in having thousands tied up in models that now having moved house will have to sit in boxes in the attic

Re: shock statement!!
yeah i totally agree with what has been said above!
i fall into the category of having models packed away in the attic.....thats something i'll be looking into,no point in having them really!
my collection still will grow and will only be irish models as usual but models i like will be added (not models that a driver did 1 rally in/i never seen the car in action/or for the sake of the model and driver being irish!)
not wanting to sound a dickhead or rich kid (im not either ) its not a money thing its just a having common sense thing with review'in my collection!

Re: shock statement!!
Well done Paul for being sensible. I went mad with btcc cars years ago and had to have every one then lost interest and sold the lot. Did the same with rally cars. Keep the ones you have and buy the one you like/want. I'm doing that now with the Escorts. I won't get them all but i will try to get the Sunstar ones but if i can't then no worries. Problem is that there is too much stuff out there these days so where do you stop. You have to draw a line somewhere.

Re: shock statement!!
Paul, I had the same issue some months ago, I have bought just 3 models in the last 6 months, these have been ones which I really wanted and fitted in to my collection.
Cant see the point in breaking the bank to store models up in the loft out of view.
I now put my efforts into the photos and getting out there watching, happy with the balance.
Good luck, its really tough at the start but after a while you realise its an addiction and you have to get the therapy to stop

Re: shock statement!!
100% correct chris/steve!!!
i want to add anti-lag to the evo and that aint cheap!
but the models really did go mad in the last 2years......2 and a half years ago i had 0 models after selling the collection out so from 0-233 is mental maddness in my mind! lol. there is so many guys out there now doing irish models its a nightmare to keep up to it
we have now put the house up for sale so i may need a hand from the local guys to help me box the models up for the transport to the new dwelling!

My clear out will start tonight on here with some trofeu escorts and Subaru plus a couple of ixo
Will be a slow process as a lot of stuff is still packed up from moving and god knows when I will get to them.

I take it you didn't win the race home today then
I'll buy the house if you leave the models in it.... It will save you from having to pack them
Jokes aside,
Cutting back or fine tuning what you collect is hard to do because as a model collector/lover I can appreciate a good model and the work/detail that goes into them,
I started my revised collecting at the start of the year and there's a lot of nice stuff I didn't buy because it didn't fit into the new revised collection,
I also sold off a lot of my 1/18 models and concentrated on collecting 1/43, there was some nice/hard to get Autoart, Kyosho and Minichamps models.... that I know I'll never have again ....
As they say needs must and nearly a year down the line I can now look at my collection and see I made the right choice

Re: shock statement!!
0-233 in two years? Is my maths right and that's 10 per month!
Sounds perfect sense to me Paul - it's so easy to get carried away.
