So Otto arent really sure where my 2 Celicas and 2 Black Cossies are however they have mailed me this:

"Dear Sir

Following Brexit, there was a change concerning the prices.

You have paid VAT but as the amount of the order of December was superior to 150 €, we will refund VAT in the next few days"

Think its going to be an expensive week...

Mine arrived Tuesday so hopefully you guys in the UK will have your soon.
In saying that, we also received a parcel on Wednesday that was posted from within Ireland the week before Christmas so there are still big delays out there

from otto today...

On our side, it's not great either ! Nothing too serious, but the January models are coming in droplets and we won't have received all the models by the end of the month. I've already told you about the situation, the shipments are very complicated to manage at the moment.
We could start shipping some orders as early as next week, but not everyone will receive their models at the same time and this will create a lot of frustration for some of you. We will therefore wait until all the models are in stock before we start shipping them to you.... Unfortunately we do not expect to receive your January models until mid-February. The latest models being 3 weeks late, as there are no more boats, we are sending our models in 2CVs… and it’s a bit slow…
We will therefore postpone the delivery of the February models to March 2021.

I'm based in the UK and so far its very random as to who is charging me VAT and who isn't. Suspect it will become more standard as sellers get their act together.

Dear customer,

As you know, the agreement between the United Kingdom and Europe on BREXIT will redefine the terms of trade between our two countries. We are a French company, so we have to be in line with the new measures that affect trade between our two countries.
Guess we have all had the same in the UK/NI?

Thus, a change in VAT has been applied as of 1 January 2021. This has a direct impact on your orders with us. Orders of an amount EXCLUDING TAX less than 150€ (135GBP) will be able to be shipped to you right now. For orders above 150€ (135GBP), you will unfortunately be asked to pay import VAT. However, for your pre-orders, you have already paid the VAT. We will therefore refund you the amount of VAT on your credit account.

The new system implemented in your country is very complex. Every time your order is over £135 GBP (€150) excluding tax we will be obliged to proceed this way, up to April when things can go back to the way they were before.

Thank you for your understanding and we wish you an excellent year 2021.

We wish you all the best,
The OttOmobile team

The bit about April and going back to how things were before is interesting though...

I got an email from them today saying due to a Brexit confusion, the courier returned the shipment to them. Said they’d resend in next few days.

Wonderful times we live in.

22nd of December was over a week before the "cut off" so looks like DPD very starting early but as you say a month to let you know is a bit pants.

I have the option of buying from my normal wholesaler if things dont improve but they add their cut first so you are looking at £90 ish so will have to see how things pan out.

Might live to regret posting this but Celicas and Sierras delivered yesterday without any hitch or payment request. Not sure if Otto sorted it or will get a bill in the post!!

Nice birthday present though! Celica is probably the best thing Otto have done so far IMO

Sorry about rubbing it in!

Lets see if the same thing happens with the Golfs!

Talking to a friend today about another product he's tried to buy from Europe and it really is a lottery. Having said that our Government's advisors who apparently were brought in to help small to medium UK companies trade in Europe are now telling them to set up bases on mainland Europe or in the Republic to get round all the paperwork, duty and hassle! How is that a benefit to citizens and employment prospects above anything else?

ive told them model was paid for last year and i expect it to arrive in near future, but just to be safe ive also just bought one on ebay ....cost me £20 more than the otoo price but worth it to secure one....petes snakes!! Rolling Eyes

On the plus side, I ordered a replacement laptop screen for my wifes laptop, which I bought from a UK seller but was posted from Germany. VAT was returned and as it was shipped from Germany, was not hit for any additional charges.

Now if only the screen would actually work swopped in it would be great.
