A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
A personal Code 3 of the Billy Coleman / Ronan Morgan 1986 Shell Donegal International Rally 'Rothmans Rally' liveried event winner, made by applying Starter decals to an IXO McRae 1986 RAC Rally base model - a pauper's KMD Coleman car if you like!...

Class model David. You're getting pretty handy at this me thinks! Very well done
Those wheels (fins) really make a huge difference.

Re: A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
Many thanks lads - very much appreciated.
I must admit that I have had the decals for this for ages, and have been meaning to do it for a similar length of time - loosing the decals for a while didn't help matters though! I agree Sean - it looks sweet with the correct white wheelfans, or Dunlop branded slicks! I'm also pleased with the way the STP roof decals turned out as well.
It's For Sale anyway - well, as soon as I find the equivalent KMD version to replace it with!

I'd ask first dibs but I have exactly the same model here, although 4 decals are missing.

"Done" isn't the right word.Cowley wrote:Nice one Juha - didn't know you had one done already.
The missing decals are:
- Names
- Door plate
- Reg numbers
- Windscreen decal
That's almost half the car, but I do have a spare STP decal and the Rothmans Rally decals are already fitted.
Re: A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
It's DRA, David Richards Autosport.mcm motorsport wrote:not running down your model 1 bit mate....feck i know nothing about 6r4's .....why has yours a dhl decal on the wing and kmd's model hasnt?
They later changed the company's name and started messing around with Subarus. You might know them as Prodrive.
Re: A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
The KMD model is incorrect as there's the Ecurie Cod Fillet logo on the windows (it shouldn't be on the car), there's no DRA logo and it's fitted with gravel wheels.

Re: A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
DC has one an excellent job. I can only fault him on one thing, the window clamps, but he used the Ixo base so they already were on the model.
I do like the way the extra lights are fitted on the front.

Have to say Dave, Juha and the 6R4 posse that I'm kind of in awe of your detailed knowledge of how these cars were from event to event, it really is incredible almost 30 years later, respect

Re: A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
And I wasn't around back then!
I actually looked at making the same model, hence the reason I know the Coleman Donegal entry quite well. I'd have a harder time spotting errors if it were Cyril Bolton's car which was seeded at 3 (although the only things that changed were the front bib, and advertising from Sealink, Shell Oils and Michelin appearing throughout the year).

Re: A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
I think Juha has answered that one now Paul. The DRA logos were included on the original Starter decal sheet, so I just used them off there.mcm motorsport wrote:not running down your model 1 bit mate....feck i know nothing about 6r4's .....why has yours a dhl decal on the wing and kmd's model hasnt?
Thank you Paul & Juha. I certainly do try and be as accurate as I can on my models, but sometimes it isn't always possible. Also, sometimes I overlook the simple things such as windscreen clamps which shouldn't be on the Coleman car if I'm trying to be accurate - well spotted Juha! A quality control faux-pas me thinks! These will be removed shortly lol.
The KMD model is also incorrect because it has the windcreen clamps fitted, AND it still says Ferodo along the sills - also wrong for the Coleman 86 Donegal car!Juha wrote:The KMD model is incorrect as there's the Ecurie Cod Fillet logo on the windows (it shouldn't be on the car), there's no DRA logo and it's fitted with gravel wheels.

Thank you David - we do try! From a personal point of view the 6R4 has been a real passion of mine for the last 28 years - so, very depressingly, I was actually around back then lol!Juha wrote:And I wasn't around back then!

It's just a matter of doing some research beforehand - don't simply rely on the decal maker's instruction sheet or reference photos, take it upon yourself to find some additional photos of the car itself, or even pause a few video clips on YouTube and check the smaller details. It's amazing how the smaller details are often fogotten, ie windcreen clamps lol!
Many thanks all for your kind words and praise chaps - they certainly make it all worthwhile!

Re: A NEW 6R4 - and one for the Irish collectors!
Yes Mark, they are your white metal cast wheelfans - white primed, and then white glossed with rattlecans, job done!
Thank you very much Mark - just need to sort out the windscreen clamps as spotted by Juha 'eagle-eyed' Bos!
