is there a fee needs to be paid with buying items from the states when they arrive at your door?

If the seller hasnt marked up the Customs form in your favour then the simple answer is normally yes in my experience if the value is over £40. If you are really unlucky the Post Office or carrier will also add a handling fee on top. I had an example of this earlier this year with some HPI models. Luckily the seller refunded me the extra charges.

I think a lot of people get caught out buying from the USA and Hong Kong on Ebay as they only look at the sale price and forget about duty charges.

Make sure they mark it as less than £30 or so as well otherwise Customs will still be interested..

no worries m8, there should be a wee sticker which he fills in when posting, giving details of contents, value, etc, thats where he marks gift on it....

Ive bought loads of 1/24 kits from china, japan and USA and never got done for customs charges. Some of those were over a hundred euro. I did get a letter from customs about one thing they had stopped alright but it was one of the few things i bought under the limit.
