Quick message re Cowley
Quick message re David Sims, he said will be online when he feels like his Dad passed away last sunday. He's not in the mood at the moment which is totally understandable.

Re: Quick message re Cowley
Hi David, Very sorry to hear of your loss. Nothing can prepare you for that, whether you knew it was coming or not. Suddenly, collecting and making models is put into context!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and hope to see you back here in the very near future.
Cheers, Steve

Re: Quick message re Cowley
Many thanks Dave for your thoughtful initial post, to all of the rest of my friends for your kind words of support, and for the numerous emails and private messages that I have also received - they all mean a great deal to me and are really appreciated, thank you.
My father had been ill for some time – he had pleural mesothilioma from contact with asbestos going back to his time working in nuclear power stations in the 1960s and 1970s. Having also been diabetic for more than 60 years, his kidneys were only operating at 23% efficiency so he would not have coped with the toxins that the required chemotherapy would have created. We all knew late last year that there was nothing that could have been done, so it was sadly only a matter of months. He had also beaten prostrate cancer a few years ago, but it is still a shock however...
Thankfully he died peacefully in his sleep, and seeing how he had deteriorated during the course of the previous week, we take great comfort from knowing that he won't suffer any longer. The five of us - our Mum, myself & Penny, and my brother Jim and his wife Max - saw him in hospital about 12 or so hours before he died, and even though he looked a shadow of the great man we knew and love, he still recognised us, still had a glint in his eye, and still managed a wry smile for us all when we entered the ward!
RIP Dad (John Sims 14.08.33 ~ 04.03.12)

Re: Quick message re Cowley
Thank you Nial & Peter - your sympathies are most appreciated I assure you.
Dad's funeral... ...NO, celebration of his life!... ...on Friday was a perfect send off for him, and was just SO right in all respects. In all honesty, he would have truly loved the day, which is reassuring for us as we now know how fitting and appropriate it actually was. Mum paid tribute to him in a self-penned eulogy, three close friends shared their own memories of him, and then there was his own personally chosen Delius & Elgar music - all of which really did pull at the heart strings as I'm sure you can appreciate!
The lack of any hymms or prayers was out of respect for Dad's beliefs as a total agnostic, and yet the service was considerate enough to respect those present that were religious.
These are a few words I penned the other day, which I think sums up my feelings and my gratitude to him...
He was a proud man with strong beliefs, morals, a glint in his eye, and often a wry smile. I would like to think that I have not only inherited such attributes as : knowing right from wrong, being polite, well-mannered & well-spoken, treating others as you would expect to be treated yourself, and cherishing my own loved ones as he cherished his own, but I would also like to think that I have passed on those same beliefs and morals to my own children. Thank you Dad, for everything!
Ho hum...
I'll more than likely start posting again soon. I keep popping in from time to time to see all of the lovely projects that you're working on, and all of the equally lovely latest arrivals that you're unwrapping to put on display. I noticed that Paul & Jimmy have recently acquired some real 'jealousy inducing' rarities - 'Ya locky shoites!'... Dave & Juha have been busy converting models!... Nicky has also been out spending his 1/1th scale car budget again!... I'll be back soon.
Many thanks again fellas for the support over the last few weeks, all the best and take care...

Condolences indeed - completely missed this thread
Sorry to hear; losing any family member is difficult but the small things can certainly make a difference. Here's hoping that if his family couldn't be by his side for the final moments that he had a caring and supportive health team there for him.
Our collections are wonderful ornaments but the legacy we leave in the memories others have of us matters far more than any plastic or metal will
