Re: 2014 Rally Spain
Good to meet you Billy - even if it was very brief. I have photos of the 50th exhibition from Barcelona in my camera and some of the KITCAR43 dioramas from their stand. As ever it will take time and assistance from some ever patient forum members to get them up here.
Point of information gleaned from speaking with the KITCAR43 people - one of their Spanish model builders is married to a lady from killarney and she does come home on a reasonably regular basis so that could solve the postage charges issue.

Re: 2014 Rally Spain
Excellent find Brian. The metro was driven by none other than Reinhard Klein himself and the more eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted an "ordinary" SLR camera cable tied to the front lamp pod. There was a remote gizmo on it operated by Reinhards wife who was co driving so that he was telling her when to press the shutter as they toured the stages. It looked mighty flimsy to me. Car No1 was an automatic Ascona A driven by a guy with only the full use of one hand so you might bear that in mind when looking at his performance particularly on the roundabout. The stages were sticky as hell so keeping the tail out was a difficult balancing act.

You weren't joking about that camera, James.

Re: 2014 Rally Spain
Anyone on facebook will see two McKlein shots I reckon were taken by that camera. Both are low down shots from an almost drivers viewpoint of a tarmac road and a section at the end of the first stage that was littered with rocks and debris from the cutting that was being done.

Re: 2014 Rally Spain
Question for our 6R4 boys...
Does Reinhard's car have any history? Whose car was it, what did it do etc...
Cheers
Chris

No history as far as I know, Mr Sims may know more. Clubman works rep, has been driven by Bjorn Waldegaard though.

Re: 2014 Rally Spain
Brian, Lovely shots. Who are the two cowboys on the second shot down ?
I have managed to get my photos from the phone and camera as far as the computer but my daughter failed to upload them on here today. Help needed - 30 odd photos incl close ups of the 50th anniversary model display etc.
Just to be clear as soon as the Mark 2 cleared a stage they clipped back on the Andorra registration plates.

Re: 2014 Rally Spain
Great pics Billy. Just googled the Rothmans Escort:
EUW 938V
RS1800 Vatanen/Rothmans car
Year: 1980
Engine: 240 bhp 2-litre BDG
Major successes: The hardest-working of all the Rothmans cars. New in 1980, it tackled 11 events in two years, winning twice, finishing nine times
Having won the World Championship in 1979, Boreham then closed its doors to develop new models. Ford 1980 and 1981, therefore, a quasi-works team was then set up by David Sutton and Rothmans, whose star drivers were Ari Vatanen and Hannu Mikkola. Five new Mk 2 Escorts were built in 1980, several others followed in 1981, and all were used extensively. EUW 938V was allocated to Vatanen, who started eight of this car’s eleven events, winning the Welsh rally twice) and taking second on six occasions.
Half a mind to call trade descriptions for one of the pics described as slowly sideways beauties.....

I did ask and apparently it was an optional extra but was very rarely specified by the buyers - don't think the tie wraps were homologated though.
