Question...

Ever since I have been on this forum or the previous one I have used Photobucket to put up photos.

In all that time I have had no issues with them

Recently I have received an email to say I need to upgrade my account as I cant share photos to another forum, ebay etc....

Has anyone else had this?

Is it for real or not?

On the photobucket site there is no info about it, so it could phishing or spam?

Cheers
Chris

There is a suggestion that if you are a "subscribing" or "extra memory" buyer with Photobucket they will leave you alone until end 2018, but the suggestion that they will now charge $400 to allow posting to forums is outrageous. Their business model is "f@cked" and rumours are this is one of a series of last gambles to make the business profitable. Having said all that, i'm a "payer" on photobucket and on other forums my photos are still showing up, but all my photo's on here look like they've now disappeared???

This was the email message from them

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

Why Photobucket?

Photobucket is the global destination for linking and 3rd party hosting. In Photobucket’s 14-year history, the Company amassed over 100 million registered users, over 15 billion images stored, 2 million daily uploads and 10 billion photos accessed monthly.

Easy to Use – Upload a photo from any device and copy the embed code with one click to host a photo with no development or technical knowledge required

Competitive, fixed pricing Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal Use)

Are my pictures still safe?

Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on 3rd party sites.

Chris - all this is correct however there is something odd happening on this forum. On other forums all my pics are still showing - where peoples arent they are the ones who are just using the free Photobucket facility. Photobucket had indicated that they wouldnt prohibit 3rd party hosting until 2018 if you were a paying user of Photobucket (I am - i pay for extra storage) - so i'm confused why its working differently on this forum?

Paul

I have never paid anything to store the photos on photobucket.

I dont know when I joined it was made clear or not, but it wasa while back!!

Clearly all the advertising helped pay for the site but personally I found them all a bit too intrusive.

Hey ho...

Ive done some digging and found the company who host this site (forumation) have brought in a new option to disable all use of Photobucket with everything that is happening with Photobucket.

Not sure why it was automatically set to disable viewing of those images by default but I have enabled it again. Wont fix things long term but we should be OK until Photobucket change things themselves

Brian

Well done that man.

So we can still use photobucket to show photos until they do change everything?
