Cazzo's Project Thread
.
After a bit of a break from building any projects for myself I have got a chance to get some things done over Easter,
First up is the John Bosch M3,
The base was a Fina car and has been stripped of its decals and the tampo washed off using thinners,
When this was done I then needed to mask up the shell and paint the bumpers and sills blue,
It took two goes at this as I didn't have the blue on the sill up the door far enough, if I had of left it as it was then the SONY decal would look too big,
I have redone the blue again so I'll let it sit until tomorrow and start on the decals,
While I was waiting on the paint to dry I did the Hannu Mikkola COI '78 MKll,
This is more of a conversion as you can use the Portugal car and just change a few decals,
The thing to watch out for is the rally plate on the bonnet, you need to run a blade across it and the CASTROL decal,
Also the DUNLOP decal on the quarter panel needs cut away from the decals below,
Pics of before, stripped and after

I'll be watching these M3's as there on my to-do list one day. Are you using any particular blue?

I'm just using a blue tinter off the ICI Nexa paint range, it looks close to the blue that is on the decal sheet + I can get this blue anytime,
If I mix a blue then it may be hard to rematch it again as I have 4 of these M3's to build,
I'm not looking forward to doing the red on this model.... but I may have a wee trick up my sleeve

I pulled the masking tape off this today and started to test fit the decals I got made,
As these Bosch decals come without the red Marlboro stripes I had planed to get some made instead of having to paint them on,
This worked out well but unfortunately I have made a mistake when sending the info and the decals are too small,
They are a good fit and easy to work with so I'm happy with that part but I should have got the wing and quarter panel decals made longer,
When the red part is fitted there is another white coloured decal saying "Golden Tulip Hotels" going over the top,
This "Golden Tulip Hotels" decal is longer than the red decals I got made so it overlaps onto the white paintwork,
It now looks like I will have get back onto the decal maker with my tail between my legs and apologise for sending him the wrong info and ask him to redraw them

After doing the Hanu Mikkola COI '78 1/43rd conversion I moved on to doing the 1/18 conversion,
Doing the 1/18 is much the same as doing the 1/43rd as its the same Portugal base model but by Sunstar,
Again there are a few decals that need cut with a blade so as to just remove the one that isnt needed but leaving the rest,
The rally plate on the bonnet needs cut away from the Castrol and the Dunlop decal on the quarter panel needs cut away from the decals below,
When I had them cut it was just a case of scrapping them off with a toothpick then removing the door number, rally plates, driver/nav decals and number plates,
After the model was cleaned down it only took about half an hour to fit the '78 COI decals,
1/43 Finished and the 1/18 stripped ready for decals
Little & Large
In the cabinet with the other 1'18 Irish MKll's
Mikkola Castrol COI 78
Fisher Ulster Castrol 79
Wilson Total COI 80
Vatanen Shell COI 82
I think I'll have to look at converting a MKll from '81 now to fill the gap

Cheers Martin it's getting there.... slowly!!
I've misjudged the size of the red decals so they need redone, but the idea of decaling instead of painting will work and will have a better finish,
.
Thanks Mark,
Have you got the Mikkola Portugal MKll..... easy conversion to the '78 COI

So thats the Mikkola MKll's done in 1/43 & 1/18, the Bosch M3 is no hold as I made a ballix of sizing up the red decals and need to get them done again,
Today I'll be painting this lot so I've a bit of a busy day ahead of me,

I hope they are still nice when I've finished painting them lol
The wrc99 and 1 of the s12's are for me to build Boland and Donnelly cars, the others are for forum members,

No worries I'll put it to the back of the queue
Did o'riordan's car have an aerial? I'll be filling in the camera box hole so I can fill in the aerial hole as well

I've seen pic's of the car and there's no line on the wheels it's just the markings on the tyres rotating
