I think a lot more people are going to their own facebook pages now rather than forums. There is a good few models ones about now which is why some forums maybe struggling

Facebook may reach more people through groups, but i find them to be very impersonal. Sure more people will see your models, but does that really count if you dont know them. Personally, with the community we have here, i respect their opinions, comments and critiques of the models i build to be invaluable as i know their background whether its from a builder, decal maker or collector. That sort of feedback has made my models better than they could ever be on facebook alone as i respect their input far more than someone i dont know on facebook. Of course this is from someone who only set up a facebook account to try sell a few models.


Just to update the original reason for the thread. Nicky will be sending me over the details of the forum in the coming days. Ill have a look at what can be implemented through the admin panel and make a few announcements in the New Year. Nothing drastic but a few changes many of which have already been mentioned.

Facebook isn't going to be an option for me - I'm against it in principle and have seen several people make mistakes that have cost them dearly by posting pictures or making comments about what they have been doing when they should have been at work!    Not a good idea!!

100% agree with your comments about the Forum's community, Brian. This is unlikely to be replicated on Facebook, so let's keep on going into 2014   . Cheers Brian, Steve

Agree with the comments regarding facebook, not really the place to discuss stuff, it's ok for posting a few pics or looking for people to buy models. To get advice or help then the likes of this forum is the only way to do it. I think there's a fairly regular flow of people on here who are committed collectors and builders plus a few who fancy giving the model building a go.

Can't wait for the changes, think this forum is on the same platform as one I set up a few yrs back, very easy to use

just to add my 'hear,hear' to steve's comments on facebook....i don't like the thing at all and what it stands for...just my opinion i know folks....but there is def a sense of 'community' on here, and i for one appreciate the difference between real 'friends' and the 500 or so many fb users claim to have, even though they have never even met them! i know i wouldn't have half the collection i have without the members on here...   
would also like to wish brian all the best in his taking over and running of the forum, (with undoubted continuing support from ol' moneybags!),  i know we all appreciate your commitment m8...so thanks!

I agree with most of the previous comments, the forum is much more personal than Facebook, and we have a great community on here.
